ART LAB

A travelling pop-up exhibition on Indian modern art, that transforms classrooms into museums and creates an immersive, participatory learning environment for learners.

Over two weeks a core group of 30 students work together to critically engage with the exhibition and the curatorial process. They develop creative responses and new curatorial concepts, and take over the exhibition—reconfiguring the display to present their own perspectives on art and art history. The programme also includes open learning sessions for the larger student body, workshops for educators, and open house days for the school community.

Art Lab offers an exciting entry point into our nation’s social and cultural heritage through DAG’s extensive collection of modern Indian art. Currently the module ‘Seeing History’ is being offered which explores key historical events in the nation’s past through art.

Art Lab has now travelled to four schools in Kolkata and Chandannagar where we saw the students eagerly engage with this rich repository of cultural heritage, interpret the visual language, and curate their own exhibition through hands-on interdisciplinary methods. Offered in English and Bengali, the programme is accessible to a diverse range of learners.
